Allendale

Allendale is a fine, smaller community of approximately 6800 residents. It is bordered by Waldwick, Wyckoff, Saddle River and Ramsey. The architecture of homes include those built with an old style New England flavor as well as cedar contemporaries. They range in size from modest to over the top.  Allendale enjoys a picturesque "downtown" including many services from a variety of shops and restaurants. You may casual dine at the famed AB&G, an Allendale institution or choose fine gourmet dining at a number of elegant bistros.

Named for William C. Allen, a surveyor with the Erie Railroad, Allendale was incorporated in 1894 from portions of land from the surrounding area. Today, Allendale is an area covering 2.8 miles and is a few minutes drive from Route 17, Route 208 and the Garden State Parkway. Allendale is 18 miles from the George Washington Bridge.

New Jersey Transit Main Line provides train service with a stop in Allendale to Secaucus and Hoboken. Shortline Bus provides bus service along Route 17 to Port Authority, NYC.

Allendale is proud of their excellent recreational facilities. Open to all Allendale residents is Crestwood Park, a 70 acre facility with a 9 acre sandy bottom lake, picnic areas, ballfield, tennis courts and snack bar. The Celery Farm is a 100+ acre protected nature preserve with a glacier lake and walking paths that is open to the public and Brookside Park a for members only summer beach club.

Allendale is a community where its residents are involved. This is evident in the many clubs and organizations that thrive including the Allendale branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, Community Art Club, Senior Citizens Club, The Garden Club, Newcomers Club, Public Library with its many cultural offerings and the Volunteer Fire and Ambulance organizations.

Allendale has consistently achieved high ratings for its school system. It is one of the best in Bergen County. The schools include Hillside Elementary grades k-5, Brookside grades 6-8 and Northern Highlands Regional High School grades 9-12
